I navigated away from this picture only to come back to it again, and again. This image just pulls at my heartstrings. At first, I thought I might have cropped tighter on the left to remove that corner in the wall, then I changed my mind - the side lighting coming from the right creates that wonderful shadow on the left that adds an element of depth to the image that would not be there had you cropped. That corner is angled at about 35 degrees and gives the wall a significant downward slop. That makes the pooch appear as if he is leaning. The effect is a little unnerving. I think a much lower point of view might have helped.
On the other hand, I find the subject truly irresistible. He (she?) is wearing a "hat" on his head, and his expression is clearing saying, "Mom, do I have to?" In fact, the expression is so powerful that it pulls the viewer's attention away from the downward angle of the room and back to the subject. And it holds our attention. That is quite an accomplishment!!!
